Home Remedies For Insomnia

The inability to fall asleep or getting up in the middle of the night is known as insomnia. Many people get this condition due to stressed lifestyles. For some it is just a passing phase but for some it becomes a daily thing. When it continues like this for more than a month, then it is referred as chronic insomnia. Though it is not a serious condition, it can make the person very frustrated. It can also affect the work life of the person.

Home remedies for Insomnia:

  1. Mix one tablespoon of valerian root, one tablespoon of hops, one tablespoon of chamomile flowers into one cup of boiling water. Keep it for about forty-five minutes and then strain it. Drink this solution at least one hour before going to the bed.
  2. Add sugar to the milk extracted from the poppy seeds. Take this after dinner that is before going to bed. This is one of the very effective home remedies for insomnia .
  3. Make the powder from four nutmegs and take this powder before going to bed. This will make you sleepy.
  4. Learning the correct technique of breathing will also prove beneficial in insomnia.
  5. Make a regular sleeping schedule for you, as this will help you to overcome the problems of insomnia. For this keep a fix time for going to bed and a fix time for getting up in the morning. This way every night at same time your body will feel the need to go to bed.
  6. Before sleeping have hot footbath, hot fomentations to the spine and apply hot packs. This is also one of the effective home remedies for insomnia .
  7. Keep your feet in hot water before going to bed. This will surely make you feel sleepy.
  8. Be involved in some or other kind of physical activity. As much your body will get tired that much you will get sound sleep. For this go for regular walking, running, swimming and jogging. Make exercise a part of your daily life.
  9. Drinking one glass of milk with little honey in it will be the best remedy to treat insomnia.
  10. Mash a ripe banana in a bowl and add roasted cumin seeds into the bowl. Mix these two things properly and take this everyday after dinner. This will be really very effective to give good sleep.
  11. Include wholegrain cereals, nuts and pulses in your diet, as these food items are good source of vitamin B.
  12. The juice of lettuce is also very effective in insomnia. You can also make a decoction from lettuce seeds. This is also very useful in insomnia treatment.
  13. Massage milk over the soles of the feet will also induce good sleep.
  14. Include curd in your diet. Also massaging curd over your head will also help you in insomnia.
  15. Mix bottle gourd and sesame oil in equal amounts and massage this mixture over the scalp every night before going to bed.
  16. Add two teaspoons of honey in a cup of water and drink this before sleeping. This will give you sound sleep.
